They first called themselves the “Punks 11”. For some reason, they decided to change their designation to the “Sagada 11”. My guess is that the change was meant to catch more public attention.
They were successful in that regard since I got interested in their story when I started hearing of the Sagada 11. But being a good I-Sagada, I was irritated when some of the group’s supporters started calling for a boycott of Sagada. What the heck, they shamelessly appropriate Sagada’s good name and are now smearing the place. Here’s a picture that speaks for itself which I found in this site.
We have not been following the nursing scandal but one of our commenters (Harold M.) alerted us to the fact that lawyer Cheryl Daytec-Yangot, a native of Besao, Mt. Province, is very much in the midst of this unfolding story.
This got us intrigued so we followed the news and eventually decided to blog about it. From the very start, we’d like to make it clear that Cheryl and her companions who exposed the leakage of exam questions during the June 2006 nursing board are the good guys in this sordid affair.
I’m sure the Ifontoks who held rallies for the preservation of the Mt. Province Capitol will be happy to know that their beloved building is being featured in the 2007 Calendar of the Heritage Conservation Society (HCS).
We have been posting about our friends in the military (here, here, and here) such that for some time this blog was in danger of looking like a military mouthpiece which, of course, it is not. Our good friends from the left need not worry because we will be posting about them soon to balance things out.
For the mean time, this post is about Simon Naogsan a.k.a Ka Filiw (he made it to The List here) and his military rival, Lt. Gen. Bonifacio Ramos of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Northern Luzon Command.
As I stated earlier, one of the purposes of this blog is to help correct the wrong information about Igorots flying around in the internet. I’m sure you know that there’s a lot of nonsense about us out there. In fact, in one website alone (www.igma.tv) I found two articles worth thrashing: one is simply wrong, the other is condescending.
First, the article that gets it wrong. In promoting the “Biyaheng Cordillera” episode of the program Kay Susan Tayo, a GMA writer writes: “Arriving in Sagada is like entering another world. It even carries the name ‘home of the spirits’ because of its beauty wrapped in mystery.”
