UPDATE 1: The death of Jocelyn is officially classified a homicide. Police: “Our officers attended the scene and did in fact locate a woman, 27-years-of-age, who had died as a result of foul play. FIRST POST: A friend from the Ifugao yahoogroup sent us information about the death of Jocelyn Dulnuan in Toronto, Canada. Jocelyn, a kailiyan from Namulditan in Hingyon, Ifugao was found dead October 2 at her employer’s home.
Eight people died while one remains missing as of 2 p.m. Sunday, following a landslide that hit Ifugao province Saturday night amid heavy rains brought by tropical depression “Hanna,” the Cordillera Region Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.
OCD Regional Director Elvira Calina identified the casualties as Erma Hiadan, 50; Ruby Manwong, 6; Megan Manwong, 4; Johani Manwong, 2; Julia Linglingon, 52; Hiadan Cupilyo, 80; Joel Linglingon, 27; and, Rommel Linglingon, 30, while the missing victim is Henry Linglingon, 55.
If there is one thing that online communications taught us, it is that you can do things cheaply. So why is the Department of Science and Technology proposing to spend P97.1 million (that’s a little over US$ 2 million) to build a tourism online database?
Granted we do not know the details of this project, but if the goal is to “build an online tourism database for Sagada and Banaue” and to “provide the medium for digital (travel) transactions directly from consumers to service providers” surely they can do it for much much less, say P500,000. Are you hungry? According to Gloria, if you are in the Cordilleras (except Benguet) then you are. So she came up with this Accelerated Hunger Mitigating Program (AHMP) to feed those hungry people from the boondocks. Now they are giving smelly NFA rice to students in school. But truth be told, those rice are now being used as “megmeg” or chicken feed by some families we know.
Anyway the “feed the hungry” program of Gloria, the Patroness of Hungry People, does not seem to be sitting well with Cordillera officials.
