Earlier, when we blogged about a video documentary on Igorot soldiers during World War II, we wondered why the producers were giving special mention to Benguet. We denied being nitpicky then but maybe we actually were. (But we also had a point, he he.) Well, this is what we said:
Not to be nitpicky but what’s up with Benguet being specially mentioned? I’m sure there’s a reason but the video didn’t clarify. Did the then sub-province have more soldiers in this particular infantry regiment? Or is the video specifically directed to a Benguet audience?
Last 18 April, Baguio Options conducted a mock poll on the various electoral races in Baguio City. Before we give you the results, we first want to caution everyone that the mock poll is not a random survey and, therefore, we should not draw any general conclusion from the results.
In other words, the results are not representative of the will of Baguio’s voters. It only represents the electoral preferences of the 135 registered voters who participated in the mock poll.
Our friends from the left will be celebrating Cordillera Day in Baguio City on 23-24 April. As you may already know, Cordillera Day was used to be called Macli-ing Dulag Day because it was initially held to commemorate the death of the man who led the people’s opposition to the Chico River Dam. [You may want to read our brief posts about Dulag here and here.]
If elections are won by a candidate’s having an internet presence then two Baguio candidates (incumbent mayor/mayoralty bet Peter Rey Bautista and candidate for the City Council Jack Cariño) should be declared winners already. Sila lang kasi ang may websites although not in their own domains. Peter Rey, whose battle cry in this elections is “Simple Lang”, has a site at multiply.com as well as on blogspot. For his part, Jack “Stop the Uglification of Baguio” Cariño, has a site at multiply.com.
However, I doubt if having an internet presence is going to be a factor in this elections so let us wait for the canvassing of votes before we declare the real winner. In the meantime, if you are from Baguio and want to be really in touch with these two candidates you should set up a multiply account and try to invite them as either your “friend” or your “online buddy”. [Multiply also allows you to invite them as your “fiance”, or “roommate”, or “boyfriend”, etc. etc. so you might want to try said options he he.] Siyempre if they accept your invitation you can always boast that either Peter Rey or Jack is your friend. Lalo na pag sila ang nanalo imagine saying something like, “Kaibigan ko si Mayor at si Councilor”. And you have the internets to back you up di ba? Eh paano naman pag nireject ang inyong invitation? Eh di sorry ka na lang. Mag-revenge ka na lang sa ballot box.
Talk about having a great sense of humor. After its graduate Noel Malimban topped the recently released 2006 bar exams, UC-BCF is now reportedly adopting the battle cry “Hindi Ka Nag-iisa, Janet Abuel”. Janet, of course, is the first bar topnotcher from UC-BCF and Noel is the second.
