* I suppose this is investigative journalism? I admire PCIJ but that post was quite underwhelming. Like it’s news that we fight the cold by “wearing several layers of clothes”? In fairness, the pictures look great. [PCIJ]

What kind of country has the Philippines become such that an ad like this appears in Craigslist?
I was like, dude, you’re looking for a maid. What’s “prettiness” got to do with it? Does a maid have to be pretty before she knows how to clean your house? Or to cook adobo? Or to wash your dirty underwear? Seriously. What’s up with that requirement? One would think that the ad placer, being an American, would be sensitive to this kind of work-related discrimination but I think sensitivity to this kind of thing gets thrown out of the window when one lives in the Philippines. After all, Filipino employers do look for people with “pleasing personality”.
And here’s another Craigslist post that made me go, “hmmm”. A foreigner likes it here in the Philippines,
Here’s our next fake magazine cover featuring Cordillera officials. Who knows, maybe the skills she learned in the health care profession will prove to be useful in healing the political wounds inflicted during the past elections.
* Is there racism in the call center industry? Yup. What about in English language teaching jobs? Yup. In Philippine society? Yup. [Call of Nature]
* It’s the year of the rat but sometimes we should scare the rats away especially if they are destroying our rice plants and our rice terraces. Join the “Tagtag id Asipulo” scheduled this coming April. [sitmo via bessmaat]
