Cordillera Election Roundup: Run Lola Run, Here Comes John

Update (07 April 2007): The list of candidates for the Kalinga gubernatorial race which you will find below should no longer include Rommel Diasen; the incumbent Kalinga vice governor who is gunning for the gubernatorial seat in this coming elections has been killed today. You can read the details here.

Boy, things are getting hotter in the Philippines. This is true not only weather wise but also politically. It will only get hotter as the summer months drag on and as the elections get closer. Now, if there is one thing that our colonized Filipino minds should have learned from mother America, it should have been the wisdom of holding elections in the cool month of November and not during the hot month of May.

Kawawa tuloy mga voters and the public school teachers who manage the polls who have to endure the heat in school rooms that have no aircon or sufficient ventilation. It would also be easier sana to placate the political hotheads if the weather is cool. Eh pag Mayo, ang init ng panahon kaya mainit din ang ulo ng mga tao.

Anyway, here’s an initial list of people running for the gubernatorial and congressional positions in the Cordillera Region (and those running for mayor in Baguio City). The sources for this list are the Northern Dispatch, Sunstar Baguio, Abrenian.com (its forum section), Frank Cimatu’s Pine for Pine (he also has a rundown for some mayoralty races), and Kalinga Tambayan (here and here).

Please note that this list is unofficial (because it didn’t come from the Commission on Elections or COMELEC) and incomplete. We will do an update once the official and complete list is released by the poll body. Or if you know of some candidates that are not included here (or some names that should be removed), then please advise us in the comments section. Click link below to read the list of candidates. Thanks.

  1. In Kalinga Governatorial race it is between Vice Gov. Romel Diasen and Rep. Lawrence Wacnang..Belac didn’t run for any position

  2. Hi Nats,
Thanks so much. It’s quite a surprise that he didn’t run considering that he is the incumbent. I made the necessary correction. I also changed the names for the congressional race and used KalingaTambayan list instead. Thanks again

  3. Ted Baguilat, wasn’t he da youngest Guv at one time?
Jupiter Dominguez – using his fame as “best mayor” to unseat his uncle? or maybe a sinister plot here. Heaven knows..
Joseph Delson – he’s a vet doctor. great personality with good sense of humor.
Baguio Mayors?? too many pretenders including Labo (if this guy is to be hanged, will do it myself right now before sundown).
Dangwa-Cosalan? our good neighbors, the ibalois and kankanaeys will just have to slug this one….goodhealth to all.

  4. Dear Candidates, I will vote for the likes of you ONLY IF:

-YOU ARE GOD FEARING and HONEST!
-YOU KNOW WHAT being PUBLIC SERVANT is!
-YOU KNOW THE PROBLEMS of BAGUIO and YOU HAVE SOLUTIONS to these PROBLEMS!
-YOU ARE NOT PART of the PROBLEMS of BAGUIO!
-YOU ARE VERY COMPETENT, RESPONSIBLE, CREDIBLE!
-YOU ARE COMMITTED TO SPEND ALL YOUR TIME AT WORK and WILL FINISH YOUR TERM WITH RESULTS!
-YOU ARE VERY RICH by the END of your term because the residents of Baguio are HAPPY, with a City that is CLEANER and GREENER, with LAW and ORDER as the DAILY MENU for GOOD GOVERNANCE!

  5. Hi KMA,
Really good list you have here. Hope we have more discriminating voters like you who set standards for their candidates. Kaya lang baka walang makapasang kandidato hehe. Thanks.
