Asian Treasures: The Good Part

We like to give credit where credit is due. In this post, we give credit to GMA-7 for opening the doors of show business to Marky Cielo through its Starstruck talent search. It worked out for the station because it found a star. It worked out for us because we now have a visible role model for the Igorot youth and a really good ambassador for the Cordilleras. It’s a win-win situation.

The video above is part of an episode in Asian Treasures (courtesy of Pinoy Rickey), a GMA-7 television show which co-stars Marky Cielo. In this clip, you will see Marky and another actor trying to get away from the bad guys.

After only one year in show business, there is no doubt that Marky has established his mark. I really don’t watch television but the clips of him being uploaded to Youtube reveal that the kid knows how to deliver a nuanced performance. He is a good actor indeed. With him, you don’t get the “I’m conscious that I’m acting” brand of acting or the “Look at me. I make pa-cute and that’s already acting” variety which are all too common among many aspiring young stars.

Huh, you still want proof that Marky can act? With only one movie under his belt, Till I Met You, he’s recently been chosen by the Guillermo Mendoza Foundation as its Most Promising Young Star. It is really not an acting award but he wasn’t given a meaty role in that movie so it’s still an achievement to be given this recognition.

Anyway, going back to Asian Treasures, the above clip shows the good side of the television show. For our purposes, the show is good because of the visibility it gives to Marky Cielo. For entertainment purposes, this episode is also good because it is a bit like an exciting thriller. The soundtrack is kind of cool too as it aptly adds to the tension.

Now that we talked about the good sides of Asian Treasures, we will also be talking about the other side of the coin. We will do that in the coming posts but Splasher has ably pointed them out here and here.

Message to Marky: Next time you try to run away from someone, the sensible thing to do is to put that darned pasiking in your back. It is, after all, a backpack. He he he. Peace, well I’m sure that that is what the director told you to do. So here’s a message for the director: That pasiking is a backpack. It is supposed to be carried on one’s back. On the other hand, wala nga namang excitement if that pasiking was carried correctly, kasi walang tapon tapon at walang pick-up pick-up thingy. And throwing and picking up that pasiking does add to the excitement 🙂
