Here’s an encouraging update on the murder of Jocelyn Dulnuan.
From the Toronto Sun:
Maid murder mystery nearly solved?
Cops hope to make arrest in murder of Mississauga live-in maid by Christmas
Peel Regional Police are “confident” they will have an arrest in the mysterious Mississauga mansion murder case by Christmas.
Saying they “now understand” what went on in the mansion, they are appealing to anybody who might have some key details in the slaying of maid Jocelyn Dulnuan to contact them right away.
“We told Jocelyn’s mother it would be solved and it will be solved,” Insp. Norm English, the head of homicide, told the Toronto Sun last night.
“It must be solved and we believe we can do that by Christmas. That is our goal.”
This Saturday marks the two-month anniversary of the Oct. 1 murder of the 27-year-old live-in maid, who was employed by the mansion’s owners for just two months. Since then, more than 100 people have been interviewed by Peel cops who call this case their “No. 1 priority.”
‘GOING VERY WELL’
With that help and around-the-clock persistence, Peel cops say they are on the road to solving the murder in the $15-million, massive white mansion on Doulton Place, just off Mississauga Rd.
They hope someone can provide them with the details needed to wrap it up.
“We are confident we are on the right track but there are certain pieces of the puzzle that need to be completed,” English said. “This case will not be solved in the media. There are 101 roads to go down and right now we have reached road 80.
“A lot of people have cancelled personal time and holidays and are prepared to keep doing that until this case is solved. We have always said, and keep saying, that solving this is this police service’s top priority. The police officers are very committed to this.”
English said that thanks to their efforts and that of the public, the investigation is “going very well.”
He said it is a complicated case but the picture is starting to become clear.
“We now have a very, very good idea of what happened,” he said. “It’s just a matter of running down all of the leads.”
The murder shocked Mississauga and this posh area not known for violence.
There have been media reports describing how the victim was murdered but English calls those false. “We have never released the cause of death or how it happened because it is vital to this case,” he said. “The only thing we can say right now is that robbery was the initial motive.”
The owners of the mansion, Dr. Jayshree Chanchlani and her businessman husband Vasdev, have not spoken publicly but have been “supportive and co-operative with this investigation.”
They have had the property returned to them and are back in the house.
Dulnuan, from the Philippines, had been in Canada for less than a year.
If you know something that will help, please call immediately, English says. To help, call Peel homicide at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
