From gmanewstv: The Philippines gained added presence in the United Nations with the election into the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues earlier this week.

The Philippine Mission to the UN said Saturday (Manila time) that National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) chairman Eugenio Insigne will help advance the cause of indigenous peoples at the UN level.

The Extortionist

How does a person become an extortionist? When she was a kid, did this woman say, “When I grow up, I’d like to be an extortionist.” Or did she wake up one day, saw that the rice pot was empty and decided there and then to be an extortionist? Or was it a slippery slope, maybe she initially did it to test if she can get away with it and it developed into a habit?

Good thing authorities finally caught up with Rowena Bauit Caronan a.k.a. Michelle Lueng a.k.a Michelle de Guzman. She will be facing charges of estafa and usurpation of authority.

A Death in the Rain

From GMA News: One person was killed in the wake of tropical storm “Helen” after his dump truck fell into a ravine in northern Luzon, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Thursday.

In its 6 a.m. report Thursday, the NDCC identified the fatality as Jonathan Dulay Salmin, 20, a resident of Talubin in Bontoc town.
