Are we on a roll or what? Here’s another kailiyan who is joining our List of Achievers. Actually, we should have posted this story earlier but it took us some time to find a picture of Councilor Henry Kipas. Anyway the Councilor, who comes from La-Trinidad, Benguet, was recently named as one of the Ten Outstanding Councilors of the Philippines, an annual search by the Junior Chamber International Philippines or the Philippine Jaycees.
Let us congratulate our kailians who passed the Science and Technology scholarships offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Giving scholarships to deserving students is one praiseworthy thing that the government is doing. Again congratulations to the scholars, you are a big help to your parents. Kaya ang lahat dapat mag-aral ng mabuti (tulad ng ating cartoon) para maging iskolar. Click the link below for the list of scholars from the Cordilleras. For complete national results (in PDF files) go here and here.

Since not all of us can go to Halsema to see the opium poppies planted by our kailian from Atok, Benguet (who was not aware that she was planting opium and that opium is illegal), I decided to upload this video which would hopefully make us a little more familiar with what the plant looks like.
In case you are wondering how much your incumbent Congressman is worth, you are lucky because we have the figures for you. However, please note that these figures may have changed because they are based on the Congressmen’s 2004 Statements of Assets and Liabilities (SAL) filed during the beginning of their current congressional term. Still, we have to make do with these figures in the absence of more recent SALs from our Representatives.
So who’s the richest Congressman from the Cordilleras? Apayao Rep. Elias Bulut Jr. with a net worth of P21.7 million. And the poorest? Assassinated Abra Congressman Luis Bersamin with a net worth of “only” P2.45 million.
