Our Town: Bucay, Abra
Bucay is the first capital town of Abra. It was chosen by Spanish authorities as the capital because of its then strategic location. The map above was drawn by Abra’s first governor, Don RamΓ³n Tajonera. This was what the town was supposed to look like. But then the best laid schemes of mice and men often go astray. So Bucay never developed into what Tajonera wanted it to become.

Here’s part two of our attempt to find the celebrity look-alikes of our honorable members of Congress. Yup, From the Boondocks abides by the presumption that members of Congress are honorable. Unless you send us competent evidence that they are not, we will be sticking to this presumption to save our ass. Hirap na, baka ma-libel π
KALINGA Congressman Lawrence Wacnang
LOOK-ALIKES: Saddam Hussein, 57%; Thomas Edison, 53%; Ferdinand de Lesseps, 52%; Takashi Sorimachi, 50%. COMMENT: Baka magalit si Congressman Wacnang dahil number one look-alike daw niya si Saddam, pero 57% lang naman. He doesn’t really look like Saddam but they do seem to have the same teasing smile/laughter. But it must be the way their cheeks curve that make them seem to look alike.
BENGUET Congressman Samuel Dangwa
LOOK-ALIKES: Kim Dae Jung, 63%; Kenzo Tange, 63%; Leon Lai, 61%; Michael Rosenbaum, 57%. COMMENT: Congressman Dangwa does look a bit like Kenzo Tange and he must also have looked like Leon Lai in his younger days. Parehong bilog na bilog ang kanilang mata eh π

The Cordillera Welcomes You
Let’s continue welcoming the new year and let’s be somewhat literal about it π Here are pictures of the welcome arches that are usually the first things you see when you enter the Cordillera provinces. Unfortunately, we can’t find photos for Benguet and Kalinga; I know they have welcome arches but no one took the trouble of photographing them and uploading them to the web. Well, we will include said missing welcome arches once we come across pictures of them in the future.
The Tikgi: A Tingguian Folktale
Its been sometime since we posted a Cordillera folktale. This being the new year, its about the right time to post a new one. This tale is about a flock of birds who help a man gather his harvest. Eat your heart out J.K. Rowling, your owls in the magical world of Harry Potter can only carry mail while the tikgis in the highlands of Abra can harvest rice and make them grow faster too.
