Kathy Quiano, Reporting for CNN

If you watch CNN, you might have seen our kailiyan Kathy Quiaño reporting from Indonesia. If you don’t watch CNN, well, you’re lucky because the above video shows us Kathy in action. Her report about the flooding in Jakarta starts at the 3:18th mark.

Meanwhile, Liza Agoot-Galao has a story on Cathy at the Baguio Midland Courier. Here’s an excerpt:

Mary Kathleen Rea Sonda Quiaño was born and educated in Baguio City. She takes pride in being an Ibaloi coming from a clan in Benguet. Watching and listening to her deliver reports gives me pride as others too, who personally know her, feel the same whenever Kathy comes out on television, not on national TV, but for an international broadcast on the Cable News Network or CNN.

Kathy, while a mixture of Ibaloi and Pangasinense, with her father Ed also coming from Laoac, Pangasinan, claims she is more of an Ibaloi. Her usual attire comes with pointed boots and a printed polo, ready for horseback riding, which she learned to do at age three. She eats “pinikpikan” and joins the “cañao” as well as dances the tayaw with grace.

  2. Been to Laoac, Pangasinan wherein everyone seems to know all the families. But the last name Quiano does not sound familiar to my wife who was born there. Maybe Kathy’s family lived mostly in Baguio. Kathy is doing great though and more power to her!
    Cheers….

  3. Hi Trublue,
Aba, kababayan pala ng misis mo. Hindi kaya long lost relatives pa sila. You should investigate 🙂

  4. She was my instructor at SLU, Mass Comm '94. Prior to SLU, she worked with Maria Ressa in the "Probe Team."
What amazes me when I was under her was her low key profile. She was more on the quiet side, but she really taught us a lot. I was lucky to have had great teachers during my Mass Comm student years. Aside from Kathy Quiano, I also had Hazel Valdez & Marie Castro as instructors at that time.
